Ciavenasca (I)
Description
Ciavenasca is a medium-sized breed of short and roundish built. The head is short and compact, the nose has a slightly Roman shape. Both sexes are polled, the ears are small and stick out. The sheep belong to the group of coarsewool sheep breeds. The wool is yello-wish-white, brown spots may also be present.
General and History
The origin of Ciavenasca sheep is unknow. However they are considered an original breed from Lombardy, in particular from the Val Bregaglia in Sondrio Province, Val S. Giacomo and the Chiavenna plain.

Utilization
Ciavenasca are important for meat production. Lambs are slaughtered with 10 to 12 kg life weight.
Keeping
The animals have adapted very well to mountain and high-mountain conditions.
