Mourerous (F)
Description
Mourerous is a medium sized meat breed. The weight of the rams is 90 kg. Its fleece is brown and white. Head and legs are duncoloured to reddish, with a white spot on the head. Both sexes are polled.
General and History
A herdbook was founded in 1983. 70% of the Animals are used for purebreeding. Erroneously, Moureroud sheep are often confused with Rouge de Roussillon.
The animals are able to move safely in the mountains, very robust and well adapted to cold and draught so that they can be kept outside all year. Age at first lambing is 21 months. The breed ist non-seasonal. Daily increase of fattening lambs is 265g/day on average.
Distribution in the past and today
Mourerous is found in Provence-Alpes, Côted d'Azur, the Rhône Alpes and Corsica. Main area of distribution was the Provence around 1900.

Main use of Mourerous is wool and milk
