Description

The Villnösser is of medium height with an average weight of rams of 90kg. Wool and legs are purelywhite, eyes have a large black frame, the long lop ears are also black at the sides. The head is long and fine with a Roman nose. Rams and ewes are always polled. The fleece hangs down and parts in the middle.

General and History

The breeding history of the Villnösser already started in the 18th century, when it was bred from Bergamasca and Paduan sheep.

Distribution in the past and today

The Carinthian type was widely spread for a long time in Friuli Region, Carintha and Slovenia. Today, animals are mainly found in the Dolomite valleys Val Badia, Val di Funes and d’Ega and in Trento Province as well as in the valley Val di Fiemme and Valsugana

Utilization

The meat is of very good quality.

Keeping

The Villnösser is very well adapted to the conditions in rainy mountain regions. It has hard claws and is safe on its feet.
