Description

A rarity from the Martigny, Fully and Saillon region in Valais, known as Durize, which probably originates from the Aosta Valley.

General and History

Rouge de Fully is a rare grape variety native to the Martigny-Saillon region of Valais. It was first mentioned in 1615 in Saillon under its local dialect name, Durize. In the 19th century, it covered almost half of the vineyards in Fully.

Since the author was unable to determine its lineage through DNA analysis, Rouge de Fully is considered an orphaned variety. However, he discovered that Rouge de Fully is very likely a grandchild of Roussin Valdôtain and a great-grandchild of Rouge du Pays.

Distribution in the past and today

0.6 ha, only in the region of Fully-Saillon in Valais.

Suitability

Rouge de Fully is now exclusively cultivated in the villages of Fully and Saillon (Valais). The wines are slightly smoky, sometimes spicy, with aromas of strawberry and blackberry, rustic tannins, and pronounced acidity.
